Six Simple Ways To Grill & BBQ With Beer
Wednesday, November 11th, 2020

Barbecuing and beer go together like peanut butter and jelly. It’s the American way of grilling. The best thing about barbecuing with beer is that it’s not just a drink to be paired with meat. In fact, it’s much more! Check out the different ways you can use your beer in barbecuing.
As A Marinade
Beer that has a malty, hoppy flavor is a wonderful companion for pork, beef, and chicken. There’s endless flavor combinations to be sampled by selecting a different beer to use for marinade!
For Soaking Wood Chips
When you soak your wood chips in beer, it slows the combustion rate of the wood you use. This means that instead of blazing away, the wood will smoke and smoulder. And in the process, you’ll have a hint of that lovely flavor.
A Basting Or Mop Sauce
Why no use beer as a basting or mop sauce? All you need to do to achieve this is to select a dark beer of your choosing and mix:
- 1 cup beer
- 1 cup honey
- 1 stick of butter (melted)
- 2 tablespoons of minced ginger
This works best with German-style pig roasts or pig shoulder.
In Your Smoker
Use beer as a humidifying agent for your smoker. All you have to do is select your favored brew and add it to the drip pan of a water smoker. This will keep your meat moist and can add a subtle flavor.
As A Barbecue Sauce
Beer makes for a great addition to BBQ sauce. Pick out any flavor that catches your eye and give it a whirl! But a word to the wise–use it sparingly. The hops in beer can develop a bitter taste if you use too much of it.
As A Spray
This is a neat little technique that’s fun to use while grilling. Take an open longneck beer and put your thumb over the top. Bring it close to your meat and shake it gently. Then inch your thumb back ever so slightly enough to release a spray of beer onto your meat. This is a great technique if you’re looking for something different than the usual mop sauce.
